About Empowered Backpacker

Hi, I’m Deb, a seasoned fitness expert, hiking and backpacking enthusiast, and passionate midlife reinvention coach. I created Empowered Backpacker to help women (especially in mid-life and beyond!) go from feeling unsure and intimidated by backcountry hiking to feeling strong, prepared, and wildly capable on the trail.

Originally launched as a 12 week guided program, Empowered Backpacker is now available as a self-paced online course. That means you can start anytime, move through the content at your own rhythm, and revisit lessons whenever you need a refresher.

  • A: While the course is designed with midlife (40+) women in mind, anyone who wants to learn to backpack safely, confidently, and with a sense of empowerment is welcome.

  • A: That’s totally up to you! The original course ran for 12 weeks, but you can now go at your own pace. Some people like to dive in and binge all the content in a couple of weeks. Others take their time to digest each piece and plan their trip gradually. You have lifetime access so you can revisit it whenever you need.

  • A: Yes, yes, YES. This course was made for you. Whether you’ve never slept outside before or just need help filling in the gaps (gear, planning, safety, fitness, food, etc…), you’ll have a clear path forward with practical tools, simple steps, and lots of encouragement
